Fr Steve's Prayers for Sunday

For the following weeks, our chaplaincy will celebrate each Sunday as indicated -  we will try to provide readings following the lectionary and readings for the specific day which we will use within the chaplaincy, if different

Fr Rodney has prepared two information leaflets which you may find useful to guide members of the our congregations in presenting both the readings and the intercessions - they are available in .pdf form to read here (intercessions) and here (readings), and can also be downloaded to print from our resources page here

The prayers set out below should be carefully read and, where necessary, amended for YOUR use

Intercessions for The Conversion of St. Paul – January 25th 2026

Father God, the light of your revelation on the Road to Damascus brought Paul the gift of faith in Jesus your Son. We share that faith and, in that faith, we bring before you our cares and concerns for the world.

Lord in your Mercy:  Hear our Prayer

Almighty God, we rejoice in the call to belong to the Church, to believe in the Gospel, and to be united with the successors of your Apostles and so we pray for our individual and communal roles in this Chaplaincy.  We pray for our bishops, Robert and David, that they grow in union with and share the zeal of St. Paul, and lead us by the grace of the Holy Spirit,

We especially pray for all those attending the Archdeaconry Synod at La Zenia starting tomorrow. As they journey to and work together at Synod help them to become the Church that you are calling us all to be and may your Holy Spirit be powerfully at work among all who attend.

Lord in your Mercy:  Hear our Prayer

Faithful God, we pray for all who, like the Christians Saul pursued, are persecuted for their faith, and for each of us, that we might be faithful even when we are ridiculed or insulted for practicing our religion. We pray for the poor and the oppressed, and those who live in war torn parts of the world.

Lord in your Mercy:  Hear our Prayer

Loving God,, as the sick were brought to Jesus by their loved ones, so we bring to you now all those whom we long to see healed. May they hear your voice and sense your touch. Especially we pray for - - - -

(Short Silence)

Lord in your Mercy:  Hear our Prayer

Gracious God, earth bound we grieve at the loss of loved ones through death, yet we rejoice in you calling them into the fullness of everlasting life.

Lord in your Mercy:  Hear our Prayer

Lord God, heavenly Father, you graciously called St. Paul from being a sinful persecutor to being a follower and a faithful witness. Give us your grace so that we may humbly search our hearts for those sins which separate us from you and find comfort in your grace, mercy and forgiveness.

Merciful father: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Ame

Yours in Christ

Rev’d Steve Foster

We have been asked by The Archbishops of Canterbury and York to continue to pray for Ukraine:

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

We write to you as the world is in turmoil following recent events in Eastern Europe

I am sure that you will agree that the horrific and unprovoked attack on Ukraine is an act of great evil

Now, more than ever, we need to place our trust in Jesus Christ, as we remember that God is not the author of confusion but of peace; and so I urge you to pray for a ceasefire, a withdrawal of Russian forces and for peace to prevail

Pray for the innocent – the women, men and children who are displaced, whose lives are disrupted, and who live in fear of the atrocities of war

Pray for those with power – that they may make a resolute and public decision to never use force, to actively work for peace and seek peaceful solutions to dispute and disagreement

Pray that there may be a recognition of common and shared humanity and God’s promise of flourishing life for all people

The Bishop in Europe has asked us to join them in prayer for the chaplaincy in Kyiv and the churches that serve Ukraine

At this time of great uncertainty, we place our hope and trust in God, whose love never fails. Lord, have mercy
